Full Moon Fever!

There's magic in the air, change in the wind, and adventure afoot in Southern Illinois. The full moon is almost upon us, and like the rising of the tides, our passions are at their peak. Now is the time to be wild and free, shedding our chains if only for a moment, singing and dancing together through the silvery moonlight.

In other words, it's time for a PARTY!

Our first big X event is coming next Saturday, March 3, on the night of the full moon. We're still working out the details, but here's what we know so far:

  • Location. It's going to be somewhere in Carbondale. We want to keep it open to both students and community, so we'll probably keep it somewhere close to the boundary between the campus and the rest of town.
  • Time. It's going to be after dark, and it's going to last as long as people want it to.
  • Music. We don't have any DJs or bands lined up, but we'll be making our own music. Guitars, drums, flutes, accordians, kazoos, MP3 players -- however you like to make music, go ahead and bring it, and we'll jam. Those of us doing the organizing will make sure we've got some good tunes lined up, but the more interactive the music becomes, the better.
  • Art. If you have any art you'd like to share, come and share it. As the night goes on, we're probably going to have some interactive art for you, whether that means performance art, visual arts, digital arts, or something else entirely. If you like the sound of that, bring any ideas or raw materials that would work well for it.
  • Party Games. Full moon fever can inspire all sorts of wild revelry and mischief. So far, ideas for party games include dancing, playing Truth or Dare, doing improv street theatre, singing karaoke, having an open mic, and teaching people how to juggle. Depending on who shows up and what we're into, we may do any mix of these, or something else entirely. We're coming prepared with some basic tools, but since X is all about creative spontaneity, we're throwing all expectations out the window. Fun, adventure, and excitement will be our only guides, and you will be the one to determine where it leads us!
  • Clues. The meaning of the Clues will be revealed. Any Clues that still haven't been found out in the wild by Saturday, though, must be earned through successful completion of a challenging party game!
  • Theme. The overall theme of the party is inspired by the messages contained on the front side of the Clues: freedom, revolution, passion, and magic. What happens when these four forces of nature collide in a single party? No one knows... but it will all become clear on Saturday.

Those are just some of the ideas, with more on the way. Check back at this site throughout the week, and keep an eye out for any random bands of X enthusiasts who may be out in the streets and sidewalks of this town promoting the event. Nobody knows what exactly is going to happen -- but given the sorts of inspirations we're drawing on, and the ideas we've had so far, we know that it's going to be a great time. We hope to see you there!

Full Moon Fever

After talking to my fellow X enthusiasts, it sounds like our gathering this Saturday is going to be more private than I originally thought. There will still be much merry mischief, but since this is our first event, we'll be keeping it focused among the people who are already in the know. Besides, gathering in small groups 'neath the light of a full moon lends to the magic and mystery of it all... :)

What would you like to see X do to break the monotony of the daily routine here in Southern Illinois? Gathering the Clues will give you some insight into what X stands for. And our first acts of merry mischief will let you see how we go about doing it. Once X is in motion, you'll slowly but surely discover more ways to participate. But it will only become a reality if you keep your eyes open for unusual happenings and spread the word about them once you've encountered them.

X is almost here... only a few days away now! Adventure and excitement are on their way...

P.S.

P.S. We're going to put out one last batch of Clues before this party. Some will be distributed in the usual manner -- bulletin boards, quarter sheets in curious locations, etc. But some will be going out with X enthusiasts who are doing street theatre or similar hijinks to promote the party. Keep your eyes open, as always...

I'm sorry to say I won't be able to attend this very, very built up sorta grand opening. I'll necessarily be out and about this weekend.
